May 23, 2014 Facebook Update

“Opponents to the planned 64-unit housing development, called Laguna Commons…alleged the project was incompatible with current businesses in that area of Irvington. They further claimed a possible increase in crime in the area because it was a low income housing project…” (Fremont Bulletin)

Having been in community and solidarity with those struggling to make ends meet, with those who count every quarter, I can’t believe that there is still so much misinformation and prejudice surrounding low-income residents.While it hurts me to hear this in my own hometown, I can understand that there may be significantly less exposure (or less visible exposure) to the low-income population in the suburbs, as opposed to a city.
